Tarzan, swinging freely through the trees is contrasted with a suited business man being pull along a path by a dog.- natural freedom and man made slavery. He too is wearing a leash. The Caterpillar is a small example of the miracles of nature. The shadow of Sherlock Holmes echoes the pipe-blowing native and represents logic, an attempt to make some rational sense of it all.
