The Tango Rhums

The Tango Rhums

The Tango Rhums are a post punk band formed around 2009 whose members all grew up in Glenrothes although they don’t live there now.

I knew guitarist Andrew Meikle as we used to work together at Rodime in the mid 80’s. We met up again after many decades on Facebook and I went along to their rehearsal. I also knew Andrew (Pandy) Loughrey from Edinburgh and met drummer Lee McPhail for the first time at the rehearsal.  I turned up originally to meet up and take photos but was invited to join the band. I played a bit of guitar and knew a few chords which is just as well as we had our first gig about two months later at Leith Docker’s Club.

We did lots of gigs all over central Scotland and even produced a CD at Castle Sound Studios of 21 songs in one day.

Me, being a graphic designer meant that I was the designated band artist and I designed the Logo featuring the famous Glenrothes concrete Hippos which we played on as kids. Only then did I discover the Hippos were created by Stan Bonnar, no relation as far as I know, but I never knew that fact up until then.

I also designed Posters, CD Labels, Backdrop Banners and Badges.
